It was great to work with local businesses and producers that attended the Northern Territory Cattlemen’s Association industry conference to make sure they have the support they need to protect and grow the industry.

As a proud sponsor of the Northern Territory Cattlemen’s Association industry conference, staff from the Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade (DITT), and the Department of Environment, Parks and Water Security (DEPWS) were in attendance.

Staff at the Northern Territory Government stall were available to discuss research, development and engagement projects, as well as biosecurity programs aimed at safeguarding the Territory.

Staff from DITT discussed carbon farming and climactically adapted cattle for sale, as well as:

  • Aboriginal business development and employment support
  • international trade and engagement network building opportunities
  • rangelands management courses underway for pastoralists across the Territory.

Livestock biosecurity officers provided information about surveillance for diseases the Territory is currently free from, including emerging threats to the region, such as Japanese encephalitis, lumpy skin disease and African swine fever.

Staff from DITT were also able to provide free livestock skin sampling kits and instructions to help monitor suspicious or unusual signs in animals.

Staff from DEPWS were able to discuss:

  • Development Coordination
  • Rangeland Monitoring
  • Land Assessment
  • Weed Management
  • Pastoral Land Act 1992
