The Agribusiness Development Division of the Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade delivers and administers the Australian Government’s On-farm Emergency Water Infrastructure Rebate Scheme. This program provides financial support to Northern Territory primary producers and horticulture farmers impacted by dry conditions to purchase and install new water infrastructure.

Financial support is in the form of a 25% rebate to a maximum of $25,000 for new water infrastructure including drilling and equipping new bores, pipes, water tanks and troughs, and desilting of dams.

Since the commencement of the Scheme in 2018-19, 166 applications have been approved with more than $2.5 million paid to Territory producers. This amount, together with the producers’ contribution of over $7.5 million, has seen new water infrastructure projects totalling in excess of $10 million introduced to properties across the NT.

The current tranche of the Scheme expired on 30 April 2022 and the department has been working with the Australian Government to extend the Scheme in the Territory for 2022-23.
