The 2024 Northern Territory Recreational Fishing Grants Scheme is open with eligible organisations able to apply for grants up to $100,000.

Eligible organisations can access the grant under 2 (two) categories:

Category 1: Small Grant Projects up to $15,000

  • Primarily to support smaller scale ‘not-for-profit’ recreational fishing initiatives.

Category 2: Priority Large Grant Projects up to $100,000

  • For larger scale priority ‘not-for-profit’ projects to help create new recreational fishing opportunities.

Applicants encouraged to apply for funding to support projects involving ‘not-for-profit’ organisations, Traditional Owner organisations and regional and remote areas.

The grants can be used to fund projects and activities that directly improve recreational fishing experiences and opportunities in the Northern Territory.

Since 2018, over $800,000 in grant funding has been awarded to successful applicants. Previous recipients have used the grant program to support new community fishing clinics, events and initiatives, educational programs, recreational fishing infrastructure, fishing waste recycling initiatives, fish habitat creation and restoration.

Recreational fishing is a significant contributor to the Northern Territory, directly generating $144 million and a further $126 million indirectly for the local economy.

Applications for the 2024 round are open for a period of six weeks and will close on the 29th of April 2024.

Applications are sought from fishing clubs, fishing organisations, Traditional Owner organisations, and other businesses.
