Consultation: Crocodile farming industry strategic plan 2024 to 2033

The Crocodile Farmers Association of the Northern Territory (CFANT) is developing the new industry-led crocodile farming industry strategic plan, with support from the Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade.

Crocodiles are strategically important to the Northern Territory due to their significant cultural and economic value, as well as their role in maintaining the ecological balance of the region’s wetlands and waterways.

The crocodile farming industry, and crocodiles more broadly, are vital parts of the Territory economy, contributing to the tourism industry and providing on-country Aboriginal employment opportunities. Carefully managed sustainable use of the wild population supports the industry and contributes to conservation and research.

In November 2023, the draft crocodile farming industry strategic plan 2024 to 2033 PDF (1.1 MB) was released for consultation.

The draft plan outlines the key actions that CFANT and the Northern Territory Government agree will support and facilitate the sustainable growth of the industry in the Territory.

Submissions to this consultation closed on Friday 15 December 2023.

CFANT are now working to consolidate all feedback for incorporation into the final Crocodile Farming Industry strategic plan 2024 - 33.
