Local jackfruit growers at Field Day at DITT Coastal Plains Research Farm

Local jackfruit growers attended a field day at the Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade’s Coastal Plains Research Farm in late October to receive an update on the latest research findings on improved jackfruit selections for the Northern Territory (NT).

Growers were taken for a field walk through the improved jackfruit selections block in the netted area which contains 28 jackfruit ‘best seedlings’ trees sourced from growers. The last four years assessment results of these seedlings as well as alternative propagation techniques were presented to growers. These findings aim to increase profitability, sustainability and product quality of jackfruit.

The industry session, held in partnership with the NT Farmers Association, explored priority setting to identify future research and development work on jackfruit.
