Katherine region veterinary officer Dr Megan Pickering has been transferred to become the new Ehrlichia canis Management Co-ordinator managing the Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade’s contribution to the Northern Territory E.canis Management Strategy. For any attendees to the Katherine and Darwin show, you may have met Megan, who did a stellar job promoting the importance of dog tick control, and keeping an eye out for the E.canis risks with dogs.

E.canis or Ehrlichiosis, is a disease of dogs, spread by the brown dog tick. It may cause severe illness and can result in death if not properly treated.

Dog owners should have their dogs on a tick control program, regularly check their dogs for ticks and be on the lookout for signs of the disease.
