The Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade held the annual Bull Sale on Wednesday 7 July 2021. A total of 71 bulls were cleared, for a strong average of $3,450 and a top price of $6,900. This sale was comprised of both Brahman and Tropical Composite animals involved in long-standing research projects that select for above average fertility EBVs (Estimated Breeding Values) while maintaining the adaptability of the Bos indicus (Brahman) breed.

The top Brahman bull was scurred, with above-average fertility EBVs, scrotal size of 35cm, 90% normal sperm -12.1 days to calving and a live export index of 52. The top Composite bull was also scurred, above average growth, scrotal size of 33cm, 80% normal sperm, -13 days to calving and live export index of 60. The value of these bulls is due to their statistics being considerably better than the breed average.

Overall, it was a very successful sale, with many return buyers across the Northern Territory and Western Australia. It is a fantastic opportunity for quality northern genetics to be shared with Industry, promoting the production and profitability of the northern beef herd. We are already looking forward to another successful sale in 2022.
