Takeaway liquor outlets additional conditions
Exercise of emergency powers by Director of Liquor Licensing - Greater Darwin region and Katherine region
As a result of the current COVID situation in the Northern Territory the Director of Liquor Licensing has imposed additional licence conditions for all takeaway liquor outlets in the Darwin, Palmerston, Litchfield and Katherine areas.
Issued under the emergency powers contained in section 257 of the Liquor Act 2019, the new variation requires licensees to ensure the purchaser of takeaway liquor has a legitimate address at which to consume liquor.
The additional conditions apply to all takeaway liquor licenses in the Darwin, Palmerston, Litchfield and Katherine areas and surrounds, including wayside inns.
Wayside inns to which the emergency condition applies are:
- Mataranka Hotel
- Mataranka Supermarket
- Mataranka Homestead
- Larrimah Hotel
- Daly Waters Pub
- Daly Waters Highway Inn.
For Katherine licensees, the emergency conditions only applies if Police Auxiliary Liquor Inspectors (PALIs) are not on duty at the licensed premises.
The exercising of these powers have been undertaken in the interest of protecting all Northern Territory communities.
The determination is not intended to inconvenience members of the general public including tourists, interstate or intrastate visitors from purchasing alcohol from takeaway liquor outlets for their own personal consumption.
