The return of this iconic event has been made possible with a $10,000 grant from the Northern Territory Government and support from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAT) and support from the Government of Timor-Leste.

Inaugurating in 1973, the Darwin to Dili Yacht race was designed to foster goodwill and strengthen maritime ties between Australia and Timor-Leste.

The Northern Territory and Timor-Leste maintain a unique and close relationship based on economic, strategic and cultural ties and this event will help strengthen bilateral relations.

The resumption of the Darwin to Dili Yacht Rally is an agreed bilateral activity under the Strategic Partnership Agreement 2023-2027 between the Northern Territory Government and the Timor-Leste Government. This event underscores the importance of developing sporting and social links between the Northern Territory and Timor-Leste, while promoting Darwin and its support industries on an international stage.

The Cruising Yacht Association of the Northern Territory will support the Darwin to Dili Yacht Race which is scheduled to commence in July 2025.

Participating yachts will depart from Darwin and conclude their journey in Dili, Timor-Leste.

The event promises to be a thrilling sporting challenge as well as a celebration of maritime camaraderie and cultural exchange between the Territory and Timor-Leste.
