Tender awarded for detailed business case

Published

The Territory Government is progressing the development of a detailed business case for a proposed agribusiness precinct in the Darwin rural area to support the growth of the Territory’s agriculture and horticulture industries.

KPMG has been awarded a tender to develop the detailed business case to assess the commercial viability and economic benefits of the proposed agribusiness precinct.

The Adelaide River Off-stream Water Storage (AROWS) detailed business case identified demand for agricultural growth in the greater Darwin region.

There is land suitable for high-value horticulture, however production is constrained by a lack of available groundwater.

Detailed business case outcomes

Outcomes from the agribusiness precinct detailed business case will help inform planning and approval activities for the AROWS project.

The agribusiness precinct detailed business case will investigate and assess the commercial viability and economic benefits of the proposed agribusiness precinct.

The final agribusiness precinct detailed business case is expected to be completed by early 2024.

AROWS benefits

Water supplied from the proposed AROWS project has the potential to enable around 2,000 ha of greenfield horticultural development paving the way for an agricultural precinct development.

It is also expected that the proposed agribusiness precinct could support growth of existing agricultural and horticultural properties and producers in proximity to proposed infrastructure who are currently constrained by a lack of available groundwater.
