Celebrating the Territory's training ambassadors

The Territory’s best vocational education and training (VET) ambassadors have been recognised for their excellence, hard work and dedication with 8 finalists selected to represent the NT at the 2023 Australian Training Awards being held tonight in Hobart, Tasmania.

The national finalists represent eligible winners from the 2023 Northern Territory Training Awards, announced earlier this year in September, along with a direct entrant to the awards

The Territory’s Australian Training Award finalists include students, apprentices, teachers and represent a diverse range of fields from information technology to beauty therapy and health care. They include:

Individual Categories

  • Apprentice of the Year – Jack Higgins - Cert III in Electrotechnology Electrician
  • Trainee of the Year – Thanapat (Joe) Kellie – Cert IV in Information Technology
  • Vocational Student of the Year – Loan Nguyen – Diploma of Beauty Therapy
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year – Porsche Cahill - Cert III in Laboratory Skills
  • Australian School-based Apprentice or Trainee of the Year – Lilly Bright - Cert III in Allied Health Assistance
  • VET Teacher/Trainer of the Year – Sharon Stewart – WANT Training Services

Registered Training Organisation Category

  • Small Training Provider of the Year – Institute of Skills and Training Australia

Direct Entry Category

  • Excellence in Language, Literacy and Numeracy Practice Award – Brendan Reid, Charles Darwin University
