Nominations are sought from persons to be appointed by the Liquor Commission as the Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson, or as a member for a term of up to five-years.  Four positions are available.

The Liquor Commission is an independent statutory authority with extensive powers to regulate liquor licensing in the Northern Territory under the Liquor Commission Act 2018 and Liquor Act 2019.  Responsibilities include assessing new liquor licence applications, making and reviewing decisions, and hearing and determining complaints referred by the Director of Liquor Licensing.

A person qualifies for appointment if the Minister for Alcohol Policy is satisfied that the person has the appropriate knowledge, experience, and expertise to be a member.

To be considered as Chairperson or Deputy Chairperson, an applicant must be a lawyer who has been admitted to the legal profession for at least five years.  To be considered as a member of the Commission, an applicant must have hospitality, business or industry experience or knowledge to provide an economic or practical commercial perspective.  Section 7(4) of the Liquor Commission Act 2018 sets out the criteria that disentitles a person to be appointed.

Nominations, including full details of qualifications, experience, and resume should be forwarded to Liquor.Commission@nt.gov.au by 21 November 2022.

Successful applicants may be subject to a satisfactory criminal history check.
