NT White Cards go digital!

Published

In another step to support business, construction workers can now get their official NT White Card delivered to their smartphone wallet.

Construction workers in the Northern Territory are required to have an NT white card in order to work on a construction site. They’re also required to show their card as proof of training, if asked by a principal contractor of a worksite they are entering, a Work Health and Safety Entry Permit Holder or a Worksafe Inspectors.

The online digital white card application process was launched in late 2021, and since then, NT WorkSafe have amended the Work Health and Safety (national Uniform Legislation) Regulations 2011 to allow for the physical digital white card to also be supplied digitally.

New applicants will still receive a physical copy of their NT white card however smartphone users can also opt in for a digital version of the NT white card that can be delivered to their phone wallet (apple wallet or google wallet).

The benefits of having a digital white card means there is a lower risk of being forgotten, misplaced, misappropriated or damaged compared to physical cards. Card holders retain the option to use physical white cards and safety training requirements remain the same.

Part of the regulation amendments is the future inclusion of a photographic identifier in white cards to strengthen identity verification and prevent fraud.

In order to receive a NT White Card you must first undertake general construction induction training (GCIT) delivered by an approved registered training organisation (RTO).

Once you’ve received your statement of attainment:

  • Visit candoterritory.nt.gov.au to complete the online form.
  • You’ll receive notifications of status updates, including when it’s ready.
  • Your physical card will be sent in the post or you can collect it from a Territory Business Centre.
  • Smart phone users can choose to also get a digital version if they select this option.

The Can-do Territory online services platform will expand over time, integrating more online applications making it easier for Territorians and businesses to access information, lodge and track online forms and transact digitally with the NT Government.
