Videos launched to support the Aboriginal Fishing Mentor Program

Published

Eight new, animated videos have been created to promote safe fishing practices for Aboriginal coastal licence (ACL) holders.

The ACL enables Aboriginal people to establish small scale fishing businesses and is increasing the availability of fresh seafood in remote communities.

The videos are part of the Northern Territory Government's Aboriginal Fishing Mentor Program, which delivers training and support to ACL holders in remote communities across the Northern Territory coast.

The videos were developed with the support of SeSAFE, a national project that aims to raise awareness and improve safety in the Australian fishing and aquaculture industry.

The videos ensure consistent and accessible messaging is provided to Aboriginal coastal licensees on safe fishing practices and are available in English and Yolngu Matha, with translations into additional Aboriginal languages being undertaken.

For more information on the Aboriginal Fishing Mentor program and to watch the videos view the Aboriginal fishing page.
