Rebate scheme a success so far
The On-Farm Emergency Water Rebate Scheme has taken off, with the number of applications since it’s opening on 29 March 2019 exceeding expectations.
To date, 63 applications have been received from all over the Territory. Forty-three of those applications have been approved and more are awaiting sign-off.
The $3 million rebate scheme was announced last year by the Australian Government for all states and territories to offer financial support to primary producers in drought-affected areas. Eligible applicants can apply for the rebate to ease the strain when purchasing new infrastructure that will improve their drought resilience and manage the welfare of livestock.
Primary producers may receive a 25 per cent rebate for up to $25,000 per property per annum.
DPIR’s Executive Director Agriculture Division Phil Hausler said the department had received applications from all parts of the Territory, with most coming from the Barkly, Tennant Creek and Alice Springs pastoral districts.
“The number of applications has exceeded expectations and it’s great to see that people are willing to take advantage of this assistance,” he said.
Three million dollars was provided by the Australian Government to implement the Scheme in the Northern Territory.
