Rules for drones

To fly and use a drone, you must follow certain safety rules as well as other rules that are specific to its location.

Safety rules

The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) is responsible for all safety regulations relating to the operation of drones.

They have implemented a regulatory framework that enhances safety and accountability while also supporting sustainable development.

Other rules

The Australian Government’s Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts (DITRDCA) is responsible for regulating drone noise.

All other rules for privacy, environment and cultural sites are the responsibility of local, state and territory governments.

• rules for flying drones in parks including permits when required – on the NT Government website.
