Apply for a registration

To practice as a veterinarian in the Northern Territory (NT) you must be registered with the Veterinary Board of the NT.

Veterinary qualifications for registration are prescribed in schedule 1 of the veterinarians regulations and include:

Qualified veterinarians may make application to the AVBC advisory committee to be recognised as a veterinary specialist.

A primary registration is where the Board is satisfied that the majority of your veterinary practice is conducted in the NT.

Prescribed fee is $181.00.

How to register

To register for a primary registration in the NT follow the steps below:

Step 1: Complete an application form

Step 2: Submit application form and supporting documents

You must include the following documents with your application:

  1. a certified copy of your qualification (unless you are currently registered in another State/Territory of Australia, in which case this would not be required).
  2. a letter of good standing from the most recent Board that you have been registered with
  3. credit card authorisation form PDF (75.7 KB) (if paying fee by credit card)
    credit card authorisation form DOCX (82.9 KB) (if paying fee by credit card)

Applications to be submitted to the Veterinary Board of the NT.

A secondary registration is where the Board is satisfied that:

  • the majority of your veterinary practice is conducted in a state or territory other than the Northern Territory
  • your registration for that state or territory continues in force for the period for which you would be registered under this section

No prescribed fee.

How to register

To register for a secondary registration in the NT follow the steps below:

Step 1: Complete an application form

Step 2: Submit application form and supporting document

You must include a letter of good standing from the most recent Board that you have been registered with.

Applications to be submitted to the Veterinary Board of the NT.

If you are a veterinary science graduate with a degree from a university in Australia or New Zealand you are eligible to apply for registration in the NT.

You must be registered prior to commencing work in the NT.

Prescribed fee is $181.00 for primary registration.

How to register

To register as a veterinarian in the NT follow the steps below:

Step 1: Complete the application

Step 2: Submit application form and supporting documents 

  1. a certified copy of your qualification
  2. if you have never been registered provide certification from the University giving details of the degree to which you were admitted, the date of admitted, and that you are of good character.
  3. credit card authorisation form PDF (75.7 KB) (if paying fee by credit card)
    credit card authorisation form DOCX (82.9 KB) (if paying fee by credit card)

Applications to be submitted to the Veterinary Board of the NT.
