State Director, Northern Territory, Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade)

Stephanie Smith is Austrade’s state director for the Northern Territory (NT) and is responsible for developing international trade, investment, education and tourism opportunities in the NT.

Prior to her appointment as state director, Stephanie was senior adviser to Austrade’s Free Trade Agreement (FTA) Program. She partnered with government and industry to help businesses navigate Australia’s FTAs and capitalise on the opportunities they offer. This included travelling to regional and metropolitan areas throughout Australia to deliver FTA advice direct to exporters. Before joining Austrade, she spent several years working in China as senior manager of partnerships and projects at the Australian Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai. She has held legal and financial analyst roles at Queensland’s treasury department and has corporate governance experience as a company secretary.

Stephanie holds a Bachelor of Laws with honours and a Bachelor of International Relations (Business) from Bond University; studied international and Chinese law at Fudan University in Shanghai; and is admitted as a lawyer in the Supreme Court of Queensland.
